1. Who we are
Bity Gig (the “Service”) is operated by Jonathan Stephen Copeland (“Bity Gig,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) in La Quinta, California, USA. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have privacy questions, contact us at support@bitygig.com.
2. What we collect & why
We collect only what we need to operate the Service. The table below itemizes each category, the purpose, and the legal basis where applicable.
| Category | What it is | Why we have it |
|---|---|---|
| Account credentials | Email address; salted-hashed password (Supabase Auth); Apple Sign-In identifier when used | Create and authenticate your account; password recovery |
| Profile data | Display name, username, role (worker / poster), bio, skills, profile photo, optional phone | Identify you to other users you choose to interact with; render your profile |
| Business profile (optional) | Company name, address, phone, email, website, business categories | Discovery in the “Pros” feed; display on your public profile |
| Location (lat/lng) | Device coordinates captured when you grant location permission; geocoded business address | Show jobs near you; route nearby-job push notifications; render Map; show you near other users |
| Job posts you create | Title, description, photos, category, budget, urgency, location, radius | Display in Browse / Map to nearby Workers; route notifications to relevant Workers |
| Swipes & matches | Job IDs you accept or pass; match relationships between users | Prevent re-showing the same job; gate chat access; enable the post-completion review flow |
| Messages | End-to-end encrypted message ciphertext; sender, recipient, timestamp metadata | Deliver messages between matched users. We cannot read message plaintext (see §4) |
| Reviews | Star rating, optional written text, reviewer and reviewee IDs, match ID | Drive reputation badges and review listings on profiles |
| Push notification token | APNs device token associated with your account; sandbox/production marker | Deliver push alerts you’ve consented to (new jobs, matches, messages) |
| Notification preferences | Categories you want alerts for; minimum job budget threshold | Filter push notifications server-side so you only get pings that match your preferences |
| Block list / hidden chats | User IDs you have blocked or chats you have removed from your inbox | Honor your suppression preferences across devices |
| Diagnostic logs | Error messages and HTTP-status codes captured client-side | Debug crashes and failures during testing; not currently transmitted off-device beyond the originating request |
What we do not collect: we do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising identifiers, ad networks, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell or rent your personal data.
3. Who we share with
We share personal data only with the following categories of recipients:
- Other Bity Gig users — your profile, posts, messages, and reviews are visible to other users in the ways described in §2. You control what you put in your profile and posts.
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Supabase processes data on our behalf as a sub-processor under their Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum. Data is hosted in the United States.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — we transmit your device token and notification payloads to Apple in order to deliver pushes. Apple’s terms govern that processing.
- iCloud Keychain — when you have iCloud Keychain enabled on your device, Bity Gig stores your end-to-end encryption wrapping key there so you can read your own messages on a new device. Apple holds this material end-to-end-encrypted and cannot read it.
- Cloudflare — serves this website. Cloudflare may log requests for security and analytics in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
- Service providers under written agreement — any future provider we engage (for example, image storage CDN, transactional email) will be bound by data-protection terms before they receive personal data.
- Legal & safety — we may disclose data when required by law, valid legal process, or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bity Gig, our users, or the public.
- Acquirers — if Bity Gig is acquired, merged, or sells substantially all of its assets, personal data may transfer to the acquiring entity. We will give notice before personal data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not sell personal data to data brokers or advertisers. We do not share data with advertising networks.
4. End-to-end encryption
Direct messages between Bity Gig users are protected by end-to-end encryption (“E2E”). Encryption keys are generated on your device and never sent to our servers in unwrapped form. Message bodies are encrypted on the sender’s device before they reach our servers and can only be decrypted on the recipient’s device. As a result:
- Bity Gig staff cannot read the plaintext of your messages — including images sent in chat.
- Bity Gig can see metadata such as which two users are exchanging messages, the timestamps, and the size of the payloads. We need this to deliver messages to the right inbox.
- Compelled disclosure (subpoena, search warrant) can only produce ciphertext, metadata, and account-registration data — not message contents.
- If you lose access to your encryption key (for example, by reinstalling the app on a new device without iCloud Keychain), historical messages may be unreadable. We provide a recovery-phrase backup option in the app for this case.
This protection applies to direct messages. It does not apply to public job posts, profile data, reviews, or other content you submit non-privately.
5. How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as we need it to operate the Service or comply with our legal obligations. Specifically:
- Active account data — kept for the life of your account.
- Deleted account data — when you delete your account from within the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account), we promptly delete your profile, posts, matches, messages, reviews, and authentication record. Backups containing your data are retained for up to 30 days before being overwritten.
- Anonymized data — we may retain aggregated or anonymized data that no longer identifies you indefinitely for research and Service-improvement purposes.
- Legal holds — we may retain data longer when required to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
6. Your rights & choices
6.1 Universal
- Access & portability — you can see your profile and content in-app. To request a structured export of your data, email support@bitygig.com.
- Correction — edit your profile in-app at any time.
- Deletion — delete your account at Profile → Settings → Delete account.
- Push notifications — turn off in iOS Settings → Bity Gig, or in-app under Profile → Settings → Push notifications.
- Location — revoke in iOS Settings → Bity Gig → Location. The app will continue to function but you will not see nearby-jobs filtering.
- Block users — block any individual user from any chat header. Blocked users cannot match with you or send you messages.
6.2 California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: (a) know what categories of personal information we collect; (b) request access, deletion, or correction; (c) opt out of “sales” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not engage in either); (d) limit use of sensitive personal information; and (e) not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise these rights, contact support@bitygig.com. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of any user.
6.3 European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the rights to: access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing. Our legal basis is generally (a) performance of our contract with you (these Terms) for core service operations; (b) consent for push notifications and optional location data; and (c) legitimate interests for fraud prevention and service security. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of past processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise GDPR/UK rights, contact support@bitygig.com.
6.4 Other jurisdictions
Residents of jurisdictions with comprehensive privacy laws (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and others) generally have rights similar to the above. Contact us and we will honor applicable rights consistent with the law that governs you.
7. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal data, including:
- HTTPS / TLS for all data in transit;
- End-to-end encryption for direct messages (see §4);
- Salted password hashing handled by Supabase Auth;
- Row-level-security policies on our database so that one user cannot read another user’s private data without permission;
- iOS Keychain (with optional iCloud Keychain sync) for sensitive on-device material;
- Access controls on operator credentials.
No security system is perfect. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your data, we will notify affected users in accordance with applicable law.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact support@bitygig.com and we will delete it.
9. International users
Bity Gig is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. The data-protection laws of the United States may differ from those of your jurisdiction. By using the Service you consent to that transfer.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy here and update the “Last updated” date at the top. If the change is material, we will also provide notice through the Service or by email before it takes effect.
